The EYEfi emergency services platform and spatial video system, EYEfi SPARC (International patents pending), featured strongly in the early stages of the Victorian Bushfire Royal Commission and has been positively supported in the Final Report, Volume II Section 3 - Fireground Response. EYEfi's Managing Director, Simon Langdon, said "We are extremely pleased that the Commission has acknowledged our technology and recognised the role that our system can play by better protecting the community, critical infrastructure, and improving government's capabilities across emergency management and incident response." The EYEfi system's breadth and depth goes directly to supporting many of the Royal Commission's objectives, particularly in the areas of tracking and monitoring of fires, managing the location of vehicles and crews, and keeping everyone informed. The Commission's Final Report states: "The early and precise detection of fires enables firefighters and Incident Controllers to rapidly mobilise resources, inform the community, and mount a significant initial attack. In addition, effective firefighting requires ongoing timely and accurate intelligence....The options for, and capacity of, technology that can supplement lookout personnel are increasing. EYEfi-SPARC, for example, enables users logged into the system to identify the location of a fire quickly using a single camera...The Commission heard evidence about potential SPARC applications such as linking the system to Telstra’s Community Information Warning System". Langdon says "The Commissioner's Final Report helps reinforce our core messages; that EYEfi SPARC can play a complimentary role along-side existing methods such as satellite, aircraft, fire-towers and the general public, while introducing entirely new capabilities in the areas of very early assessment, real-time incident tracking and situational awareness." EYEfi uniquely brings together single-camera targeting of locations, is fully integrated with the government IP networks and spatial data, can track and manage fixed, mobile and airborne devices, is cloud-based enabling multi-agency collaboration, has national scalability, and is directly compatible with other public safety solutions such as the Emergency Alert system. EYEfi SPARC is a suite of tools that strengthen fire prediction modeling by acquiring real-time visual data about the location of a fire or lightning strike and its intensity, and then automatically geo-tags this with visual, biodiversity, spatial and environmental information which is then distributed via our web-browser, sms or email. Langdon adds "We urge government at a local and national level to seriously consider the EYEfi application, as it is proven technology and ticks many of the objectives set-out in the Commissioner's recommendations while not perpetuating other key issues outlined in the final report, such as creating further system disparity".
